DESIGN CONCEPTS TABLEMAT

This “tablemat” is best when printed large – at least A3 in size. Each group can have their own copy and use it to note down when discussing and planning their use of design concepts.

This encourages groupwork as they have to cooperate to complete it. It also prompts them to read/use appropriate terminology.

The group can write the stimulus in the middle, or if the stimulus is a photograph or script it can be placed/stuck in the centre of the tablemat.

The tablemat encourages pupils to consider:

  • Lighting
  • Sound
  • Props
  • Costume
  • Make-Up
  • Set

Of course lack of space or resources may mean that not all pupils can actually bring their design concepts to life, but they can at least plan their use and explore/justify their ideas.
